Setup popup reminders
E-Z Contact Book can display advance notifications for birthdays and other events.
These notifications will periodically appear in a popup window in the corner of your screen when the program is running:

Birthday reminders
To add a new birthday reminder, open the contact editor on the Reminders page, and:
- Click Add Reminder button and select Birthday from the drop-down list. This opens Reminder Editor window:

- Select the birth date from the date picker
- (Optional) If you know the birth year, select it from the drop-down list, or leave as "< unknown >"
- Choose how many days in advance you want to be reminded (options: 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 days, or 'on that day')
- Click OK to save the reminder. This will add a new section in the Reminders tab:

Note: New reminders will only appear if the Active box is checked.
Birthday reminders will be displayed starting from the chosen advance date and for up to five days after the birthday unless turned off.
Reminders of other events (non-birthday and recurring reminders)
There are three ways to add an event reminder:
- Right-click on a selected contact, then choose Add Reminder to open Reminder Editor. The new reminder will be linked to the contact

- Open the Reminders page in the contact editor, and click Add Reminder. Select a predefined event (e.g., Anniversary, Call, Email, Visit, or choose Other to enter a custom event name:

- Add reminder in the Calendar (see the Non-contact reminders section). This type of reminder will not be associated with any contact
Non-birthday reminders work similarly to birthday reminders but offer an important additional feature: recurring reminders.
To make the reminder recurring:
- Check the Recurring box in the Reminder Editor window
- A new tab Recurrence will appear. Select how often the reminder should appear (Daily, Weekdays, Weekly, Monthly, Annually), along with start and (optional) end dates

- Click OK to save the reminder
Tip: If you use the Sync feature, a Private checkbox will appear. By default, reminders sync with other connected devices.
Check Private if you want to keep a reminder only on your device.
Example of a non-birthday reminder in the Contact Editor:

Non-contact reminders
You can add reminders for calendar events that are not linked to any contact. To do this:
- Open the Calendar view

- Add, edit, or delete reminders directly in the calendar
-
Double-click a reminder to edit it, or right-click for options like Edit, Delete, or Send Email (if applicable)

How to view, temporarily stop, deactivate, or reactivate reminders

You can adjust these settings in Main menu > Settings > Preferences > Reminders.
To check today's reminders manually:
- Click View > Show Today's Reminders, or
- Right-click the program icon in the notification area (system tray) and select Show today’s reminders.
To prevent the reminder popup from closing, move your mouse cursor over the window while it is displayed.

- Choose Mute reminders for today or Mute reminders until: (specify a duration)
Deactivating reminders

For birthday reminders:

For recurring reminders:
- They will reactivate automatically after the next scheduled display period.
Important: E-Z Contact Book must be running for reminders to appear. If the program is closed, reminders will not be displayed.
To ensure the program stays active:
- Open Settings > Preferences > General
- Ensure the box Start E-Z Contact Book when I start Windows is checked
- Option 2 or 3 in When click on "Close" button is selected
